Hello LT, maybe it's a light issue and your grand-newborn needs a lighted environment in order to feel secure enough to close her eyes. I'm sure you both sleep in the same room so you may need to come up with a way to mask just your eyes. I know it's hard for adults to sleep in light unless they are very tired. Hope this helps.
