Boyd retiring after seven years with Lions

June 6, 2002

DETROIT (AP) -- Linebacker Stephen Boyd, the Detroit Lions' third all-time leading tackler, is retiring after seven years with the team.

Boyd, who had 773 tackles in his eight-season career, was a fifth-round pick in the 1995 draft after playing at Boston College. He led the team in tackles each year from 1997-2000 but has been bothered by knee injuries in the past few seasons.

The Lions also announced they have agreed to restructure the contract of running back James Stewart. And the team signed wide receiver Robert Kilow and defensive end Kourtney Young. Both are free agents.
