Hi, Dan. Thanks for the article. Such fires are quite natural here, and became a problem when they began building in the canyons and more rural areas the past decade or two. Since last year's fires, we now have a proliferation of bear, cougar and coyote attacks on people, as lack of water and food drive them into areas of human habitat that only a short while ago were their happy hunting grounds.
As world population grows, and water shortages become a larger problem as they may soon be in China, it might be interesting to look into companies that specialize in water purification (as in making potable water from seawater, desalination plants, etc.). Some of these are already operating in the mid-east, and they could be important technologies in coming years, not to mention lucrative investments. The only publicly traded company I know of in this area is ION, which I once owned years ago.
