Running back Huntley signs with Bills

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) -- Free agent running back Richard Huntley, who led Carolina in rushing last season, signed with the Buffalo Bills on Tuesday.
Huntley, a five-year veteran, signed with the Bills a day after they freed up about $1.8 million in salary cap space with the release of veteran offensive tackle John Fina.
No details of the contract were given.
Huntley becomes the ninth free agent to join the Bills this offseason, and enters a packed backfield.
The Bills, who have expressed intent on establishing a power running attack this year, already have five experienced tailbacks on their roster. They include Travis Henry, who led Buffalo with 729 yards and four touchdowns as a rookie last season, and promising third-year veteran Shawn Bryson.
Huntley started eight of the 14 games he appeared in with the Panthers last season, finishing with 665 yards rushing and two touchdowns. He also had 21 receptions for 101 yards receiving and a touchdown.
He was released by Carolina in February.
Bills president Tom Donahoe is familiar with Huntley. It was Donahoe, while serving as director of football operations with the Pittsburgh Steelers, who rejuvenated Huntley's career by signing him in 1998.
Huntley enjoyed his best season in 1999 with Pittsburgh, where he finished with 567 yards rushing and 253 yards receiving, and led the Steelers with eight touchdowns (five rushing).
Bills offensive coordinator Kevin Gilbride also coached Huntley, while the two were in Pittsburgh.
Huntley broke into the NFL in 1996 as Atlanta's fourth-round draft pick, but saw limited action as a rookie with the Falcons, and was waived before the 1997 season.
