I don't think the prior post was advocating redistribution of wealth but instead was suggesting using a flat rate taxation method on what each individual spends. Flat rate seems to be a fairer system than what we currently do which is to use tax policy to favor special interests and certain groups - just look at how we subsidize housing with tax deductions for interest payments and real estate taxes. The same is true for a variety of coporate subsidies as well. In the end, I would question whether the system matters since common sense tells us that the wealthy in any system will always pay more - they make more money. While I also don't like paying taxes, paying taxes means that I made money rather than losing money or having no income to pay taxes on - both of those are positions that I prefer to be in.
