EL PASO, Texas -- While President Barack Obama is trying to make sure Americans do not panic, some are taking the threat of swine flu on the Borderland very seriously.

In El Paso, KFOX has found a run on supplies like hand soap, sanitizers and now masks.

Jerome Ponicki of Meridian Medical Supply in Central El Paso has never been so busy.

"Everybody has been coming in worried about the swine flu that's been going on across the border in Mexico," said Ponicki.

People coming into the store and calling on the phone, asking for isolation masks. Now he's sold out.

"Well into the thousands, and what I have coming in is well into the 3,000s," Ponicki told KFOX.

But you'll have to wait until Wednesday or Thursday for Ponicki's next order of masks. The store that gets primarily urology patients is now getting everyday Borderland residents.

"Most of them are new customers, many of them are from over the border or that they travel over the border frequently," he said.

So when the next shipment comes in, should you buy a mask?

"It's always better to air on the side of caution and because of our location I think people should just take into consideration clean habits," said Ponicki.

The masks are sold in boxes of 20s and 50s depending on the type you want.
