This money wasn't just "given" to the banks. It was loaned and as far as I know we're earning interest on it. Already the banks are wanting to pay the money back so I don't really see what all the fuss is about.
Let's say this was just you involved and not the nation. Is that how you would handle it?
There are 300 million people in the US and if it were up to me I would give each person 1 million dollars and save the country about a trillion.
Everyone could afford to purchase medical insurance. Healthcare crisis solved.
People could afford to pay their mortgages. Housing crisis solved.
Buy new cars. Auto industry saved.
Send their kids to college. Another problem taken care of.
Investing in the stock market. Stock market rallies and hopefully everyone makes a ton of money.
The one teensie-weensie little problem I see is that everyone would be quitting their jobs and there wouldn't be anyone to flip those burgers at McDonalds.
