Major U.S. stock indexes record best stretch of gains since May 2007
NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- U.S. stocks on Friday ended slightly higher, with financials pacing the gains, as investors basked in the market's longest winning stretch in nearly two years. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 5.90 points, or 0.1%, to end at 8,131.33, its highest close since Feb. 9. The blue-chip index tallied a weekly gain of 0.6%. The S&P 500 added 4.3 points, or 0.5%, to 869.60, a 1.5% rise from last week's finish. The technology-laden Nasdaq Composite advanced 2.63 points, or 0.2%, to end at 1,673.07, up 1.2% for the week.
