If you think that an EMA time span in the 40 - 50 day range is reflective of what I was writing about, I apologize for being less than clear.

What I was thinking of is more in the range of 12 - 23 day time span EMA. What I was trying to do was slow down the EMA to be more in sync with the 12 day SMA. For example, IF it turns out that, on average, that a 14.75 day EMA closely tracks the 12 day SMA (it doesn't), it might provide a path worth persuing. The strange option of using a 14.75 day moving average is something you can do with an EMA that you can't do with an SMA (as far as I know).

This example is using a 16 day EMA, and is more along the lines of my thoughts.
