Rien --

All of our Tuesday moving averages dialogs just triggered the intellectual challenge to figure out why such small differences should account for the degree of XDEV performance degradation we're seeing. By nature, I tend to be a tuner, simplifier and optimizer of systems. I have a personal hangup about SMA, I just inherently don't like it. But I have to admit, in the XDEV case it seems, so far, to be the superior choice. I need to understand, in depth, why that is. (I really need to get a life...)

Just for the record, I have never suggested to Myst that he change XDEV to use EMA or VMA. I will not recommend changes until I can build an overwhelming case in their favor. I find EMA so much more flexible and easier to work with in Excel, as I said Tuesday. Since Excel is our main XDEV test bed, it seems to me that easier Excel use leads us to better XDEV, sooner.

My post yesterday was really just my working through the MA issue, at the intellectual level. One of my hopes was that it would help trigger the thoughts and ideas of others in our group. By the way, my actual testing of the idea has been discouraging, so far. Oh well, you can't win them all. Hey, at least I'm learning a lot.
