A lot of it is personal preference. But, I have gotten excellent stuff out of PnF charts. They do remove a lot of noise and are elegantly simple. It hammers down the fact that price movement is king as well. Can't fit an MACD on them. But, I use candles as well.

In this case, it illustrates how important a pivot the 1850 area can be, whereas a candle chart may not.
