Dear Mmoy. Re: I think that you underestimate the population of China and the number of jobs that they want to take. Take a look at the number of their unemployed citizens. It's a staggering number to contemplate in US terms.

An example of the effect of China’s recent effort to raise the standard of living in the hinterland on Intel:

“China's leading PC maker Lenovo Group (0992.HK) has won the bidding to enter China's campaign to promote sales of household appliances in rural areas.

Lenovo joined the bid hosted by the Ministry of Commerce (MOC) for the license to sell products in rural areas with 21 rivals.

Lenovo plans to build 700 county-level landmark outlets and 7,800 sales shops in three years, remarked Liu Jie, deputy president of the group. The landmark outlets will dedicate to PC sales, service, training, promotion and product experiencing, he noted.

According to the bidding results released on Thursday, altogether 14 brands, such as Lenovo, TCL and Dell, with 183 types of products won the bid.

The campaign sets the upper price limit for desktop computers at 3,500 yuan, and for laptops, 4,500 yuan. The price limit is a big challenge to PC producers, who tried to reset product prices or develop new products in order to cope with the price standard.”
