I give all politicians the benefit of the doubt.

Therein lies your mistake. 95% of them are crooks. The other 5% don't have clue what their doing.

...and that's giving them the benefit of the doubt in my book.

It wasn't always that way of course, but power corrupts, and the majority of our government became corrupt a long long time ago.
