In a speech on February 18 marking Black History month Attorney General Eric Holder said:

“Though this nation has proudly thought of itself as an ethnic melting pot, in things racial we have always been and continue to be, in too many ways, essentially a nation of cowards. Though race related issues continue to occupy a significant portion of our political discussion, and though there remain many unresolved racial issues in this nation, we, average Americans, simply do not talk enough with each other about race.”

Some critics have called Holder’s comments “offensive” and others can lauded them as “honest” and “constructively provocative.”

YOU DECIDE: Are we a nation of cowards when it comes to race? Were Eric Holder’s comments “constructively provocative” or offensive? Share your thoughts:

We are all racists -- black, white, whatever. We all act civil when around other races. Whites, in general, must be especially diligent in their civility due to the reverse discrimination prevailing now. The liberal media and the election of Obama will set race relations back at least 60 years. Also, have you ever seen an Asian driving an American automobile? I’m not a coward, just realistic. If you discuss race at work (where you spend the majority of your time) you would get fired, because someone would turn it around on you.

We are not a nation of cowards .. we are a nation of the political correctness which goes over board.

No he is the coward. He is the one who pardoned Marc Rich…and helped Reno with her dastardly deeds. He should never have been appointed AG. Our country deserved better! But, looking around the appointees, it is easy to see Obama has a difficult time picking friends of good character and honor. He even chose a hate-filled pastor. for 20 years, and did not notice how corrupt he was! I am not a coward. My son is a Marine, an officer and a gentleman. He serves with men of all color. I do not look at color. I look at the heart of the person. I have lots of friends of different color BUT I select those who are not corrupt, can speak in full sentences, know how to be a friend, pay their taxes, pay their bills, care for their children, and help their communities…I do not want to spend time with thieves, crooks, murderers or corrupt ones. I hate it that the Blacks keep playing the race card. When folks choose to do bad things, they go to prison…not because their skin is a certain color, but because they are not fit to be free in society. The AG, should know this. What a bozo comment! When most of the stupid ones in prison (who did not strive for a free-education, and a job), are out of prison, they just get back into trouble, because they cannot choose wisely!

I’M WHITE,I GREW UP IN A HOUSING PROJECT (1954-1962)I LEARNED VERY EARLY ABOUT RACISM.
BACK THEN IT WAS WHITE DEGRADING BLACK…BUT IT WAS MY MOTHER TEACHING ME ;AFTER A
FEW SMACKS IN MY FACE. BECAUSE ,OF DESCRIBING A BLACK PERSON AS A N….R.SHE TAUGHT ME….
THAT SKIN COLOR DOES NOT MAKE A MAN OR A WOMAN,WE HAD QUITE A FEW CONVERSATIONS
ON THIS TOPIC;AND I LEARNED OVER THE YEARS THAT SHE WAS RIGHT.I MADE A LOT OF BAD
MOVES IN MY 20′S&30′S AND HAVE PAID THE PRICE FOR THEM.I HAVE ALSO WATCHED AND
LISTENED TO PEOPLE LIKE YOU MR HOLDER.BLACK & WHITE.WHO,THINK LIKE YOU,AND,ARE THE
REAL COWARDS.I WONDER HOW OUR MEN AND WOMEN OF THE MILITARY FEEL,HOW THE FAMILY
MEMBERS OF THE FALLING PRESERVING OUR FREEDOM FEEL.99% OF AMERICANS ARE NOT
COWARDS IT’S THE 1% LIKE YOU THAT WANT TO DIVIDE OUR NATION.YOUR REMARK DISGUST’S
ME.

I suppose this means that Mr. Holder is pushing for a “White History Month”. That is how I interpreted his comments. As A.G. he certainly understands that, “separate is not equal”. The most populous, and least populous ethnicities in this country do not have a “History Month”, only certain groups based only on their skin color. If he does not address this disparity I say that HE is the coward, not us.

Mr. Holder seems to have stepped right in, and bought in to President Obama’s fear based rhetoric. Then again, perhaps the script itself may be directly from the oval office. When white, black, brown, red, yellow or any other color people finally decide to forget about differences and celebrate life itself, we may indeed begin to enjoy a total co-existence. Our president has chosen to be black, but I still would have voted for him if he had chosen to be white or bi-racial. He nearly lost my vote when he began using the aforementioned fear phrases in his campaign speeches. Mr. Holder…get hold of yourself and what you say in public. You are the AG, not the nation’s conscience. All you have to do is to make sure that the law is properly applied during your tenure….then you may retire. We are not a nation of cowards; but we are a nation of people who have been browbeaten into being afraid of saying the “wrong thing”…or “being misunderstood”. Dialog is good; but using accusative phrases may only spur additional silence. Your speech could be considered another “Groundhog Day”…and I can only hope that your words haven’t cast a long shadow on race relations.

The attorney general’s comments are quite obviously based on his personal feelings and opinions. His comments were biased, insensitive, politically incorrect, uncalled for, unprofessional…need I say more? Is this the typical mindset of the Obama administration? If this had happened on Bush or Clinton’s watch, there would have been outrage. This is appalling.
