I honestly think that they haven't been exposed to the right kind of knowledge.
It's lack of education that is the real problem.
Lack of exposure means a much smaller perspective on the world.
They can't see the forest for the trees. They focus on very narrow pieces of a much bigger picture. When you concentrate on something that small and that hard, it usually gets all out of perspective and very blurry. All they can see is how they personally are effected and don't realize that all the peoples of the world are being turned into serfs and tenement squatters on the lands that they once owned. It's not only the third world who have to worry about the probability of sever lack of wealth, everyone is at risk now.
If they'd realize that the lack of resources that forces half the world population to live in sub-20th century standards and is squeezing the life out of the American middle class is something that is contrived and then manipulated, they'd all know who to blame. Once that is realized, maybe we could cease throwing rocks at one another and start fixing the place up.
One head cannot contain all wisdom.
