If the government had mandated two decades ago that having a powerful computer at one's disposal is a fundamental human right, we'd all still be using obsolete computers from Digital Equipment . . . as the government would have taxed away private sector IT money and spent it on subsidizing losers in market competition.

In the US, only the projects have run-down concrete slabs. In countries where government gives everyone free housing, everyone lives in projects . . . you may even have to share communal kitchen and bathrooms with your neighbors, as that's what government officials deem more efficient ways of building those concrete slab pigeon houses . . . also let the neighbors keep an eye on you. LOL.
