MRKL news-RIDGEFIELD, CO -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 07/15/04 -- Markland Technologies, Inc. (OTC BB: MRKL) (http://www.marklandtech.com), an integrated homeland security company, announced today that the US Army's Program Manager of Sensors and Lasers has awarded EOIR Technologies Inc. a contract to collect desert imagery for use in a future computer-based trainer for Thermal Weapon Sights (TWS). EOIR will collect imagery from a variety of desert environments, including high- and low-desert terrain, to simulate the conditions soldiers are currently facing. This new trainer will provide the war-fighter with a decisive advantage on the desert battlefield by allowing soldiers to train at any time, at any place, without an instructor.
The soldiers' ability to decipher a thermal scene is crucial to the effectiveness of the TWS. The imagery EOIR is collecting for the US Army will be used to train the soldiers' eye to quickly interpret a thermal image. In an effort to enable the soldier to effectively use the TWS, EOIR will eventually incorporate this imagery into a computer-based trainer with thermal imagery from several other environments and settings.
The three variants of the TWS do not depend on visible light for imagery, allowing the soldier to conquer the darkness by identifying and eliminating threats earlier and more efficiently.
