Pursuant to the political impetus for tighter regulation of drug safety in the wake of the Vioxx and Avandia incidents, decisions pertaining to drug safety will henceforth be reviewed by three randomly selected federal agencies dedicated to ensuring public safety. In the case of Lumizyme, the FAA is one of the three designated agencies that has to sign off on all safety-related matters.
