The Kurgan machine building plant (Kurganmashzavod) has signed a contract for a delivery of 180 BMP2 infantry fighting vehicles to Yemen. “The first batch of 50 vehicles has been put together and shipped to the customers. Another 130 vehicles are being prepared for shipping,” told Interfax agency Sergei Mayev, first deputy head of the Federal Service for the Defense Order.
Kurganmashzavod is in general very secretive about its export-oriented activities and the sum of the deal was not disclosed. However Vedomosti business daily with a help of Konstantin Makienko, an expert at the Center for Analysis of Strategies and Technologies, put a price tag of $100 million on the infantry vehicles’ deal.
In addition to BMP2 vehicles Yemen has signed a contract for a delivery of 12 KA-52 Alligator helicopters worth approximately $180 million.
