From California ports alone, in 2007, we shipped back 17,000 miles of EMPTY containers if they were stacked end to end. Enough to line the boarder of Canada, Mexico, the entire coastline of the 48 states and entire coastline of Alaska. That is how much consuming we do verses producing and that are just CA stats, not inclusive of any other ports.
With our currency priced right, there is a job for every American represented by those containers that hit the docks full but leave empty. Naturally that means a lower standard of living but unless we grab the bull by the horns and turn our trade around, we are going to crash our currency which will be much worse than the current crisis by many magnitudes.
At this time, we are passing personal, corporate and state risk to national risk.
