We got a 1500.00 check. Since I have the longest commute and I was driving a 1996 Ford Ranger getting 16 mpg we used the check as a down payment on a new Ford Focus.

I was damned if I was going to send that check overseas to a foreign car manufacturer. At the same time I was damned if I was going to buy a piece of junk.

I track the mileage savings and so far I'm a $1000 ahead of the game vs continuing to drive the truck.

We do have an SUV and this past summer for our annual vacation it was take the Focus and take less or take the SUV and spend $300 more on gas.

Our son was the deciding vote. Lets take the Focus and spend the $300 on vacation.
