Visudyne needs to be given with a steroid such as Triamcinilone to have more than token efficacy across the full spectrum of AMD disease subtypes and lesion sizes. But doing this adds an intravitreal injection (for the steroid) on top of an IV (for Visudyne) and a cold-laser treatment (to activate the Visudyne pro-drug). The overall regimen is too cumbersome to be practical if there is a simpler alternative that is even modestly effective.
