so you approve of torture and mistreatment during interrogation of prisoners?
If it would save AMERICAN Lives YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!

Yayaa: I have to disagree with you. It's a little disconcerting that a stance of No Torture is considered radical, not pragmatic, and un-American. On the contrary, opposition to torture represents everything that America stands for. It's amazing how quickly some are willing to throw away 200 years of civil liberties and personal liberty when confronted by an external threat -- it's fear I suppose. How quickly everyone forgets the Reichstag fire, and how rapidly a civilized society can spiral into a fascist authoritarian state. Radical/militant Islam is a new threat, but there are always threats...Shoot back? Of course! Resort to torture? No.

I hear many people on this thread saying: We’re bringing freedom to Iraq! Nice sentiment, but at what cost? Those responsible at Abu should be tried by the military, but their actions should not be condoned, no matter what information could be gained -- this behaviour stands in direct opposition to everthing America stand for.

Americans were outraged when they learned of the torture carried out by the National Socialists, the Stalinists, and the Japanese (during WWII). But now, since America has an external threat, it’s pragmatic and acceptable? No.
