What your broker may (or may not) have told you is between you and him.

Also, my broker did not "make a clear effort to dissuade me...from making foolish mistakes". I asked several times why I had to phone in. The answer: We've had problems with people accessing our customer's accounts illegally.

I also suggested;

....who even put obstacles in their way when they insisted on buying the stock anyway,

Perhaps that is a more applicable explanation for your difficulties.
