Xmodem for the Commodore, not Xmodem, the protocol. Just the version that allowed xmodem communication to TBBS from Commodore. I believe it was the Vic20, because I recall it was only 22 characters. I used Term-40 with the Vic20, but had to hang up, turn it off, start up again and load the program that did xmodem. Before that we could only do ASCII transfers.

When Zmodem first started, you had to initial the transfer.. rz was it? and sz to upload? I forget. There was no Ymodem or Zmodem back then, was only Xmodem for the Commodore. Wasn't til we started to use Procomm on XTs and greater that we had Y and Z.

Then you have some of us hobbyists who bailed out when they saw the writing spray-painted on the wall, only to show up again to do an "on steroids" version of their hobby.

I just ignored the net until I could no longer. Then when I got online, I found a lot of the people who used to call the local systems but just disappeared. The hobbiest lost. We all eventually got sucked in. My first web page was all formatted text. HTML? Text and hyperlinks.

Yeah, 15 years later... goes by pretty fast too. I can still remember 1987 as if it were yesterday.

I've been typing since 1966 or so. My mother caught me one Sunday morning in 1964 with her typewriter. She told me when I started 1st grade, if I remembered to ask her, she'd teach me to type. So September 1966, I came home from 1st grade and said ok, teach me. She kept her promise. My 7th grade typing teacher clocked me at 78 wpm. That was on those old clunkers. When I first got on a keyboard, it was like WOW! What a difference. But my first computer keyboard experiences were on TTYs. Back in 1991 when we just started to see some fancy home based type programs, someone had a typing tutor. I went through the lessons it gave and took the speed test at the end. I couldn't get it to register higher than 110 wpm with 100% accuracy. I typed gibberish, 0% accuracy, but as fast as I could type to test the speed, but it didn't register higher than 110. So I don't know really how much above 110 wpm I was able to push my typing speed. That was 1991, close to my prime. The mouse/trackball has also changed typing requirements since. I hated to use a mouse. We found a logitech trackman marble and that's all we use now. I have 5 in use.. on all the computers I use.
