LandAmerica primarily sold title insurance, but the company has enterprises related to banking, property assessment, relocation and back-office support functions. The company hopes to sell its other businesses, but it is not clear that buyers will be found for all assets, a company spokeswoman said.

A sale would require approval from the bankruptcy court.
