A (Russian),in this case "American" businessman comes to a remote tropical village and says, “I am buying local monkeys, will pay 10 dollars per monkey.”
The village has hundreds of monkeys, and all the villagers are catching them and selling them retail and wholesale at 10 dollars each.
A few days pass happily, with everyone involved in the profitable monkey-catching and monkey-selling business. The businessman says, “I need more monkeys and will pay you 20 bucks apiece.”
The villagers are trying harder and harder to catch the leftover monkeys.
The businessman even paid 25 bucks apiece for the last couple of monkeys. Then, he said that he needs more and is willing to pay 50 bucks. With that, he left and put a manager in charge.
The manager says, “Let’s trick him. I’ll sell you these monkeys back at 35 apiece, and when the boss returns, you can sell them back to him at 50 bucks apiece.” The villagers happily borrowed tons of cash and bought all the monkeys back at 35 bucks apiece.
The next day, the manager disappeared. The villagers were left with large loans, skinny wallets, and with lots of expensive monkeys.
