And what's up with this new "low cost" Centrino with 2 MEGS!!! of L2? Did I get that right?

I don't know about low cost but yes, the puppy has 2 MB of L2
cache. Not bad for a 21 W, 84 mm2, 1206 SPECint_base2k
at 1.6 GHz chip that's shipping at up to 2 GHz right now. Its
by far the brightest shining gem in Intel's mass market crown
right now.
