Nice article....explain why the foreign automakers US operations are profitable?

"every worker in Big Three factories could work for free and only shave 5 percent off the cost of their cars. The auto companies pay as much for hubcaps and fenders as they do in wages."

Without further explanation, I assume they are referring to assembly plants. The total cost of UAW labor is significantly greater when all components are considered.

Implying that labor costs are insignificant is disingenuous.
