The notion that a combination treatment for HBV should consist of one nucleoside and one nucleotide is simply wrong, IMO. I used to believe it simply because JP Sommadossi said it, but I now think his assertion was just hype.

Rather, what’s important for an HBV combination is that one drug in the combination be a purine analog and the other be a pyrimidine analog.

Thus, Viread + Tyzeka makes sense, Viread + Clevudine makes sense, Baraclude + Tyzeka makes sense, and Baraclude + Clevudine makes sense.

Viread + Baraclude does not make sense, nor does Tyzeka + Clevudine.
