I can do a quick response for now:

First you have to have a MARGIN account. When making a buy, you place it as a SHORT SALE, then when you want to close that position, you BUY TO COVER.

Yesterday, I shorted 1000 shares of AMR at $10.34/ today in afterhours, I covered those shares 2/500 buys to covers at $9.40. So after commissions, I made $919.00.
