Hap,
There are a lot of interesting questions to answer in this story, that many are hoping will prove to be another watergate. Why would the CIA hire Joseph Wilson, a member of Clinton's NSC and someone known to oppose military action in Iraq to investigate the yellowcake story. First of all, he was not paid by the CIA, and only his expenses were paid by the CIA. His wife appears to be the one who suggested him for the role. Why not use someone already in the CIA's employ? His research in Africa doesn't appear tho be that exhaustive, and the CIA did not regard his findings as definitive. A question I have is, was he sent by a faction in the CIA that wanted him to not find any evidence that Iraq had sought the uranium? Note that the trip took place in early 2002, Wilson says he was shocked when he heard Bush make the statement to congress that such an attempt had been made (there also appears an interesting twist in semenatics, the white house says 'attempt was made', Wilson says 'no such transaction was made'). However, Wilson doesn't make his assertion that the president lied till about six months later after we have entered into Iraq. Why not before troops enter Iraq?
Unfortunately, Fitzgerald will probably not conclude his investigation before the election, so Kerry operatives will be pushing the 'treason' story daily.
