True, but I'm comparing it to other parties and conversations. This was the first. And what was most interesting is that they were tight-lipped BEFORE the alcohol was flowing.
That said, you have a point -- many a failed deal has been bragged about before the failure at company parties. However, would it be safe to say that many a successful deal also was bragged about at parties? Even successful deals?
Just because you worked at a software company that had a history of failed deals doesn't mean that only failure software companies do bragging. That would be pretty faulty logic. Successful ones brag as well. What keeps me interested is that they have something possible at all on the table.
And I highly doubt you worked at a small software company that had a legend in the industry as this CEO. Certainly does change the realm of what's possible, does it not? When you got a company headed by a dude with a history of some major slam dunk monster homeruns I tend to pay attention a bit more rather than equate them to some POS software company that never accomplished anything elsewhere. :)
