Actually I dont think they bought most of these on the open market.
I think they figured out exactly how many shares could be reduced to make dramatic effect and they reduced the O/S and float accordingly.
The 50 million share buyback is the one being done on the open market. This could reduce this by another 50 million and the ones holding quite a few shares will see a big percentage jump in what those shares will be worth.
