That's why I think the banks should have to pay a contribution at some point in the future rather than being allowed to off-load their debt for free on the taxpayer.

Imagine how much it must suck to be foreclosed on and lose your house and then have your taxes go in part to paying off the mess. A fierce double hit if ever I heard of one.
