Alan, It is not long until Intel discontinues production of northwood altogether, and designs that use the P4 need "something" to plug into the socket... this is that product.
In other words, it's "filler" for the 500-series of mobile Pentiums, while Intel tries to keep Dothan in the higher-margin 700-series.
I fear this could lead to a collapse of the 500-series mobile market, which also translates into a collapse of 700-series prices. Then the only way to remedy this would be to release a 500-series Dothan, perhaps with less cache to differentiate itself from the 700-series line. Talk about trouble waiting to happen.
