Wallace eventually was captured and executed in London. The english won back Scotland, but few years later the SCots, led by King Robert Bruce, defeated them at another famous battle, also near Stirling Castle. The Movie was accurate on that one.
But much later, King James Stewart, King of Scotland, (son of Mary Stewart, Queen of Scots and a nephew of the english
King,) became King of both countries. He also caused the rewrite of the Bible, ever since known as the King James version.
There is a large Wallace monument atop the craig which was his observation point at the battle. There is a BRAVEHEART monument at the bottom of the steep craig. I can personally testify that it is steep..I walked up it and spurned the bus.
The BRAVEHEART MOVIE is widely given credit for inspiring the Scots latest move away from english domination... they formed their own Parliament in the late 1990s.
I cannot fault the Movie from straying from the true account of the battle of Sterling Bridge. It made a better show, perhaps, and after all, did help to bolster Scottish Pride.
