Well, that explains a few things. While you have pointed out one example of a board being moderated fairly where such compensation is taking place, there are still far too many instances of abuse from moderators that we now learn may be compensated by the companies that are the subject of discussion.
It helps explain how the majority of my posts were deleted around a year ago while it was clear that said posts in no way violated the TOU. They mostly consisted of facts with documentation that didn't reflect glowingly on the company being discussed. I ended up having to forward and justify each of my posts to a third party admin to get them restored. This eventually led to a bit of frustration on my part where I finally lashed out against the "paid promoter/moderator" and I ended up in the jailhouse. Outside of this one outburst, I have fully complied with the TOU through many years of use. While my treatment doesn't excuse that outburst, my fit was the direct result of flagrant abuses by a moderator. One year later, I am still limited to three posts a day. I have yet to see where any moderator has been the least bit chastised for any of their abuses.
At least now there is a review process in place which provides a chance that a post will be looked at fairly. But, that process is already being abused. Recently, my deleted posts have not been subject to review. I am back to having to manually forward them to a third party admin where they have been restored in every instance.
This also explains why I have never received a response when I have volunteered to moderate a board. . .I would not accept compensation from a company to do their bidding.
As some pay to use this site and expect a fair discussion to take place, has any consideration been given to adding a disclaimer to the site that discloses that your moderators may be compensated by the companies under discussion?
