SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Shares of bond insurers Ambac Inc. and MBIA Inc. rose in after-hours activity following Standard & Poor's affirmation of ratings for the company's respective insurance units. S&P affirmed its AA financial strength ratings on both MBIA Insurance Corp. and Ambac Assurance Corp. and removed the ratings from review for a possible further downgrade. Ambac shares rose 9.2% to $4.98 and shares of MBIA rose 6.5% to $11 in after-hours activity.
