Dockside, It wouldn't affect pain but it would make all the RD prevention data useless. The whole idea is to demonstrate RD prevention concurrent with preservation of analgesia. We need both parameters at the same time.

As per Dr. Varney, the two maintenance of analgesia tests they used in RD-1 were -

1) Electrical test - electrodes wired to the fingers receiving random electrical shocks.

2) Sensitizing the skin with capsaicin (the active ingredient in chili pepper), followed by heat applied to the skin.
