Heparin-resistance occurs in up to 15% to 20% of CPB operations and we estimate the fully developed market in the US to be approximately $150 million.


FWIW: I asked several cardiac surgeons and cardiac anesthesiologists about heparin resistance in CABG. It does not seem to be as common clinically as in the literature. One surgeon said he remembers only 4 or 5 cases in 20 years of practice.
