You are missing the most important part re. AT and thrombic strokes..AT combats the ischemia mediated apoptosis which greatly extends the zone of cell death during stroke. This zone extends far beyond the areas in which the blood supply is cut off. According to O. Cuomo's paper AT is effective given intravenously (no blood brain barrier problem) three hours after the stroke and may off some value even six hours later,,It is no mere "clot buster"
