the problem with filling from a household natural gas line is that the pressure is too low to fill tanks with enough gas. Honda is coming out with a household pump that takes gas from your natural gas line and compresses it to the proper pressure and has a filler adapter for natural gas propelled vehicles.
It is not on the market yet, but will be soon.
As soon as natural gas becomes easier to get at filling stations, etc., it will make a good stop-gap measure until other technologies catch up, and would get us off the imported oil addiction much quicker than drilling more oil wells.

Hydrogen is a better long-term answer, but the technology really isn't ready for mass use yet. that, and to some same extent, natural gas, are like having a bomb on board. an accident that causes a leak and kablooey.
