it was about both, i suppose. in the process of stating that people who vote against the death penalty should have loved ones brutalized, i realized how horrible that sounds, and how unlikely it was that either of our eventualities would take place (edit in: on a wide scale).
or to put it another way, we don't all have people killed in our families, and we don't all witness executions.
the main point was about justice, however.
