Here is an interesting link about US Airways bankruptcy outcome for its shareholders...http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/05/29/AR2005052900781_pf.html.

I imagine there are a lot of variations, but one thing is clear, don't buy shares in a company where bankruptcy looms.
