Rising fuel costs are causing ExpressJet to end its flights out of Jacksonville International Airport in September.
The Houston-based company is ending flights under the ExpressJet brand and will return 39 airplanes by June of next year.
"If we had any other choice, we would not take this difficult action," said Jim Ream, president and CEO. "However, rising fuel prices has made the operation impossible to sustain."
ExpressJet will continue to fly 205 airplanes under its Continental Express brand, as well as 30 planes through ExpressJet Corporate Aviation.
ExpressJet flew from JIA directly to New Orleans, Austin, Texas and Kansas City, Mo.
