Chris, Brahimi lost a lot of his credibility with the comments: "There is no doubt that the great poison in the region is this Israeli policy of domination, and the suffering imposed on the Palestinians as well as the perception of all of the population in the region, and beyond, of the injustice of this policy and the equally unjust support ... of the United States for this policy" The Israeli policy is simple (to the Palestinians and the Arab world) You want to live in peace? Let us live in peace and you'll have your wishes granted. And yes, there are Israeli soldiers in jail for actions similar to what few American soldiers did in Iraq. And no, as far as I know, none is in jail for rape or wonton murder of "detainees" (though I know of few that are in jail for manslaughter when using lethal force to try and control some of the riots). I doubt in both cases (Israeli and us) the proportion of rapes and murders is higher than in the normal civilian population. I know of no case of American (or Israeli) soldiers shooting at an 8 months pregnant mother and then finishing her 4 daughters at close range and videotaping their deeds. The US has now apologized for the misdeeds of few of its soldiers, where is the Palestinian Authority's apology? Instead, their radio, TV and papers lauded the murder of women and children as a "great Shahid self sacrifice". Give me a break, the prisoner's issue should now be put aside after systems are in place to prevent recurrence.
