Good morning MIB.
The wonderful thing about being bornagain is:
Jhn 14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
The Spirit of Truth.
Jhn 16:7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.

From scripture I would conclude that- O/T saints did NOT have the perminant indwelling. For...even Christs apostles HAD TO WAIT. =)
The Spirit of God/God himself was of a different testament/covenant. In the O/T Gods Spirit- came upon, rested on, visited at certain times for SPECIFIC REASONS.
He did leave Saul, He did depart as David prayed for the return, he did violently come upon Samson to slay a thousand, he did come upon Ezekiel and take him into the heavens, as with Paul in the n/t, he came upon o/t prophets TO PROPHECY mostly.
The "function" of the Holy Spirit for believers in the N/T is that of being able to REACH/PRAY to -> The Mediator/Jesus <-
You see, ALL religions "think" that when the "pray" God will hear them.
But we know that is not true.
JESUS is the ONLY mediator between God and man.
Where is Jesus?
In heaven. So, in order to reach/pray to the Father we MUST pray TO the Son, THROUGH the Holy Spirit.
How? By becoming bornagain. =)
The Old Testament was far different than the New.
We have ongoing access to the Father through Jesus via His Spirit.
In the Old Testament- They HAD to go through the high priest on earth, literally. In which on the occasion God would visit and forgive the sin of people, if the priest HIMSELF was found soiled, etc HE WOULD BE FOUND DEAD BEFORE THE LORD.
========
That is why my question was a good important one. =)
For: The Old Testament does NOT teach the Eternal Security of a person.
(The INDWELLING in the new testament can be viewed differently of course =) However, in light of scripture we see that old testament saints were not perminantly sealed).
As is the case example as mentioned with Job. And daily offering sacrifices FOR SIN, to God.
GODBLESS IN TRUTH. -VERITAS77 =)
It is a puzzling thing. The truth knocks on the door and you say, "Go away, I'm looking for the truth," and so it goes away. Puzzling.
