Hard to believe times are that bad someone would cut out your converter eh? Hope it was not too costly to repair. Yes, 200K is definitely possible with just basic maintenance. There can still be some costly repairs if something fails on the vehicle but most of the major components just need regular maintenance and to not be abused. Abuse and neglect are the main reasons vehicles fail. We had a customer at the dealership who brought in the Isuzu and wanted to know why the engine had failed under warranty. The manager looked at their records and saw they had never been in for maintenance in 24,000 miles since the vehicle was purchased. He asked when they last had an oil change. The customer said "What's an oil change? No one told me about that!". The dealer replaced the engine as it could not be proven that anyone had explained the owners manual and scheduled maintenance to the person when they purchased it. Hard to believe but it happens.
