point of fact- M. King Hubbert the father of peak oil theory predicted a worldwide peak in 2000.

He knew that was based on incomplete information (since the state owned oil companies publish little data) and the oil shocks in the 70's did slow demand growth. If the peak did occur in 2005 still not bad for a 1950's prediction. In addition he did call the peak of production for the lower US 48 states (1970) dead on.

No credible source (read geologist) predicted a 80's peak.

If peak oil "theory" was any other scientific principle, with the empirical evidence it has backing it up it would be considered a law.
